Short Report – QA/QC Meeting Mar 2022

Meeting Date: 03 Mar 2022

Talking Points

  • Checking recent fluxes from our stations
  • Some site scripts on the RDS need an update, please contact LH. Still open: CH-CHA, CH-OE2
  • New dataset is now available: FLUXNET Warm Winter 2020 Collection
    • Data for our sites are also available on the grasslandserver (gl-processing)
  • New PI dataset for CH-AWS is now available: news: CH-AWS: New Flux Product FP2022 (2015-2021) | description: CH-AWS FP2022 (2015-2021)
  • Check of EC raw data files:
    • Recommended check for SRPs and T-SRPS: take a look at EC raw data files and check if they look OK
    • Current EC raw data files are automatically converted to ASCII each day (done by the Python script bico)
    • Files and their plots can be found here, e.g. for CH-LAS:
      • gl-processing\CH-LAS_Lae-Subcanopy\20_ec_fluxes\2022\raw_data_ascii
  • Weekly flux calculations on the RDS:
    • Please calculate fluxes and check them once per week, or more often if you wish to do so.
    • If you cannot calculate the fluxes, try to find a substitute, e.g. LH.
    • Please move your Level-0 results from the RDS to the respective Level-0 folder.
    • Automatic upload of Level-0 fluxes to the database will be implemented soon.
  • Update on the database (db):
    • The db is running on our server gl-calcs, most of the current data is ingested daily.
    • The name of the time series database is influxdb.
    • The QuickViews will be moved to the database, starting with the first sites this month.
    • The db allows us to explore the incoming data at full resolution.
    • The db should be accessible from your ETH computer and it also seems to work via hest2.
    • The weekly data checks for the meteo data will be done via the database (soon).

 Info

  • If you are (Tech-)SRP, please attend QA/QC meetings or tell LH if you can’t, needed for planning of the meetings.
  • SRP & Tech-SRP: please prepare short statement about your site and send to to LH (max. 2 sentences)
  • The purpose of QA/QC meetings is to check on current, incoming data. SRPs choose specific issues we should look at together and discuss in the group. Fluxes are checked if the respective SRP wishes to do so.
  • There is a list of known variable abbreviations that you can use in case you wonder what an abbreviation means: Variable Abbreviations
  • List of QA/QC Meeting dates: QA/QC Meetings 2022

 Participants

Recent Fluxes

CH-AWS

Site Info

CO2 emission through the snow, no missing data.

CH-AWS: CO2 flux

CH-CHA

Site Info

Already very clear and consistent CO2 uptake, some gaps probably due to weather conditions. N2O and CH4 fluxes working well.

CH-CHA: CO2 flux

CH-DAV

Site Info

EC system runs well, but there was an issue with one of the sonic transducers (it popped out of the housing, found 9 Feb 2022, transducer was pushed back in), no issue visible in data but sonic will be replaced.

CH-DAV: CO2 flux

CH-DAS

Site Info

Currently CO2 is emitted, through the snow.

CH-DAS: CO2 flux

CH-FRU

Site Info

CO2 fluxes low at the moment. No snow on grassland.

CH-FRU: CO2 flux

CH-LAE

Site Info

Unknown data format between mid-December and start of February, we will try find out the format. Data gap in February due to calibration. Recent fluxes look OK.

CH-LAE: CO2 flux

CH-LAS

Site Info

Data gaps in plot due to already applied (preliminary) quality screening. Subcanopy shows CO2 emissions.

CH-LAS: CO2 flux

CH-OE2

Site Info

Already very clear CO2 uptake during the day since start of year. Cumulative curve is now showing that net CO2 uptake has started on a daily scale.

CH-OE2: CO2 flux
